A Little Bit About Me.....
I founded Emerald Coast Critter Sitter THE PET NANNY! in the spring of 2001 in the small but growing beach community of Navarre located in The Panhandle of the state of Florida.
I began pet sitting on a very part-time basis in 1985 in my home state of Wisconsin, and then again in Nashville, TN. when I relocated there in 1987.
My childhood in Wisconsin began on a dairy farm, imagine that! I was surrounded by dogs, cats, chickens, pigs, horses, and of course...lots of COWS!
Over the years I have had a menagerie of pets...dogs, cats, "rodents", fish, birds, rabbits and a reptile here and there!
My current animal family consists of Vincent, my fiesty Min Pin, Percy, my gentle & loving Mixed Breed "rescue", and MY VERY NOISY AND CRAZY Budgie, Wendy. (Gordon, the Green & Yellow one, passed away recently)

Here is a small sampling of my "extended family members"!

THANK YOU NAVARRE PET OWNERS FOR A CRAZY-BUSY-REWARDING-CRAZY-SUMMER SEASON! DID I SAY CRAZY? BUSY? REWARDING?

I HAD A BLAST WITH ALL OF YOUR FURRY, FEATHERED, FINNED AND SCALY BABIES!

I LOVE MY JOB!

Announcements:

It's never too early to book for the Nov/Dec holiday season!

Due to Military transfers, I have 2 spots open midday Mon-Fri for Daily Dog Walk/Potty Break beginning 9/06/10.

For those of you that are not familiar with my services, I do NOT provide boarding care.

Please go to: www.yellowpages.com

for boarding facilities in our area.

Emerald Coast Critter Sitter services the communities of Navarre, Navarre Beach, Holley By The Sea, & Midway, up to and including West from Navarre to Woodlawn Beach Rd., East from Navarre to Whispering Pines Blvd., and North to 399 (East Bay Blvd).

My services include vacation care, and I also provide dog walking/exercise/potty breaks Monday-Friday if you work long hours or have a puppy that needs extra attention.

Keep in mind that every "holiday season" is quite hectic, as are the summer months. Book EARLY! If you are a new client, please arrange to meet me well ahead of your vacation time so that I have time to meet with you and your pets before I become too busy, at least 2-4 weeks ahead of time. I book up very quickly!

I never "overbook", so there may be times I have to decline your request if not made well in advance. My most important concern is the well-being of your pets and I need to give each and every one the attention they deserve. Several of my clients also retain the services of a 2nd "back-up" sitter in the event that I may have to decline service. With the new addition of Pamela @ Happy Tails, I can provide more room for vacation customers. Feel free to email me for details.

I will do my best to accommodate "last-minute" requests from established clients, but keep in mind, I may not have the time available or have possibly arranged my own "time off" for a special event or vacation. I will post my vacation days well in advance on this page for you to refer to.

There is an additional charge of $4.00 per visit if request is made for SAME DAY service. ($20 total)

RATES

Navarre, Navarre Beach, HBTS & Midway

$16.00 a visit.

Visits/Daily Dog Walks are 30 minutes.

There is no additional charge for multiple pets, however, if you have multiple pets that require more time for proper care, or extensive indoor/outdoor plant watering requirements that take much more time, I charge for each additional 15 minutes as needed and arranged for, PRIOR to the pet-sitting assignment.

$8.00 per additional quarter hour

**I do not charge for administering medications/injections

*If you fail to cancel a scheduled visit before I arrive at your home, you will be charged for that scheduled visit. Remember to call/text/email when you return home! I will continue to come to your home if I do not hear from you to "error on the side of caution" in case of an emergency delay on your behalf.

SO...REMEMBER TO CONTACT THE PET NANNY WHEN YOU RETURN!

KEYS! KEYS! KEYS!

**I prefer to retain a key (safely kept in a lockbox!) as the cost & time to pickup and return keys can be can be excessive.

$5.00 fee, each way, for key pick-up & return.

($10 total)

For security reasons, absolutely NO keys will be sent through the mail to your home address!

(no charge for pick-up, of course, if key is collected during your initial interview)

**NOTE ABOUT HURRICANE SEASON**

Hurricane season begins June 1st and runs through Nov. 30th. As most of you know already, I lost my home in Ivan as I live on the water. I have finally moved back into my newly constructed home in 2008.

I am in a MANDATORY EVACUATION area, located on the Santa Rosa Sound. This prevents me from bringing pets into my home for safe-keeping in the event of a storm. I am also not equipped to carry along anyone else's pets as I will have a car full myself when evacuating.

HURRICANE PLAN IS AS FOLLOWS:

If you are going to be out of the area anytime during this storm season, please be prepared to either RETURN early enough (48-72 hrs) to care for your pets in the event of an approaching storm, or have a RESPONSIBLE backup person available to come get them and/or prepare your home. As I usually have, on average, 12 or more families booked daily, many times as many as 35+ animals daily,  it's physically impossible to ready anyone's pets or property for evacuation. I have to evacuate myself with my crew as I live on the water. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

If you are concerned that you may not be able to follow this evacuation plan, I can refer you to other caregiver's in the area that may be able to care for your pets during storm season.

I apologize for my inability to "weather the storm", if you will, with your pets, but previous Hurricane experience and lack of complience with "Evacuation Plans" has forced me to be quite strict with this policy. YOUR PETS SAFETY is of the utmost importance!

FINDING FOREVER HOMES!

 PEANUT!

Peanut is one lucky cat! One of my regular customers began caring for a homeless cat who found refuge in her back yard. Shortly thereafter she had kittens! Peanut is one of them and was quickly adopted by another friend of mine. He has quite the personality and almost acts like a dog at times. Here is Peanut keeping an eye on the front yard!

OLIVE, HENRY & SADIE!

These kitties are a real live successful RESCUE story!

When a long-time client of mine lost both of her cats due to old age/illness within a couple months of each other, we were both so devastated. Their "Mom" finally decided to get another cat, possible two. She began to check out rescue groups/shelters when I happened to walk into St. Francis Vet Center the same day.

Dr. Natalie had taken in a pregnant stray and she had 4 babies, one which had been adopted already.

I mentioned this to my client and she went down to take a peek. The hard part was deciding which one or two to take.

Obviously, we know what the answer is!

VACATION for ME?

This is my list so far....

Oct. 16th-off all day

"backup petsitter" Pamela provided

RAINBOW BRIDGE

The most difficult part of my job is losing a one of "my" animals when they pass away. Whether or not it's unexpected or an illness or old age, the pain is still great.

I cry all of the tears along with their "caretakers" and try to remember all the wonderful times we had together.

It never gets easier.

Saying goodbye to:

NICKIE

Nik was almost 16 years old when he passed away recently, he was so dear to my heart. He always followed me around the house no matter how he was feeling and had to have his "lap time" before I left, much to the chagrin of his siblings! Nickie (aka: Ranah's Little Black Tonka Toy) is survived by his sibings Pudge & Shasta. I miss "my" little Nik. There will never be another like him.

MOVING AWAY

...always so hard to say good bye:

August is proving to be a difficult month saying goodbye to long-time clients!

I can assure you, Kleenex will be my 24/7 companion as I bid farewell to all of these furballs and get my last hugs & licks in! (photos to follow soon)

#1: Possibly the most difficult, the family of Lacey Grace, Henry, Sadie & Olive.

As I also became good friends with their "caretaker" Krissa over the years, her becoming my kayaking buddy too, the final visit to say goodbye is going to be tramatic. They have been my clients for a few years. I may have to save up some Skymiles to go visit them in Washington DC! A rare photo getting everyone together the night I said goodbye.

#2: Not moving very far away, but out of my territory, 2 loving kitties I have also known for several years, Sasha & Frisbee. We said our goodbyes last week and I was lucky enough to spend a few days with them while their "Mom & Dad" took a short vacation.

#3: Another big move a few states away, Dakota & Oscar leave soon, we said our farewell last week. Although only knowing them a few months, through the "scouting for a new home" process I spent a few weeks with them and became very attached to these big goofballs! Safe travels 'Kota & Oscar-man!

#4: Chip-Shot & Divet, two crazy & entertaining Bunnies I bid farewell to next week as Mom is being transferred to the NW. I have only known them 1 year, but have spent a lot of time with these affectionate cuddly floppy-eared babies! These two were amazing as they knew basic commands, had free roam of the house, and frankly, were better trained than many pets I have had the pleasure to meet in my pet-sitting journey. Yes ladies, I will remember to bring you some Organic "fronds-on" carrots from E'vrman Foods as your going away gift.....so spoiled by their "Nanny"!

#5: Two of my longtime Mon-Fri Daily Dog Walk pups have just moved due to their Mom & Dad being Military. It was a very sad day when I had to go say good bye the night before they left. Here's to happiness in your new home. (I totally "lost it" the moment after this photo was taken....)

Tyler & Maggie......

I will miss you so much!

#6. On Aug. 22nd I said a tearful goodbye to Bella & Gizzo. A sudden job transfer takes them to Jacksonville within 2 weeks. This pair of fur balls have brought much joy to my life, I looked forward to my weekly visits with them....truly a joy! Another sad day.

CRAZY CRITTER

OF THE MONTH!

KIWI

Kiwi is one of my favorite Parrots I care for on a regular basis! She s a CAIQUE Parrot and has so much personality!

Caiques are known for their "hair-surfing", and as a general rule, I usually keep my ball cap on when visiting with her!

Caiques are not a "beginner bird", they require a good deal of traning and firm "rules". Kiwi was a rescue and has found a great home with one of my regular customers. She learned manners quickly and is a complete joy to spend time with. She loves to swing upside down on my finger as well as playing with my hat! I look forward to my time with her, as well as the 3 other birds that live with her. KIWI! You are one special lady!

***SPECIAL NEWS!***
